Dear ***, As peoplesworld.org reports, this week President Obama in a heartfelt speech issued executive orders aimed at regulating weapons sales.  The most important measure, background checks, would close the "gun show" loophole that allows sales at gun shows and on the internet.  Predictably the gun lobby and its mouthpiece the National Rifle Association called the president's proposal a "gun grab."  But the president does not intend to back down, nor will the U.S. people a majority of whom by whopping margins of 80 percent and more support a common sense measure like background checks.  The problem lies with Congress' ultra right majority and their big business backers.  Right now it's critically important to show that the president's proposals have support.  We encourage you to circulate this petition sponsored by former Representative Gabby Gifford calling on Congress to support background checks.
